committing to a vision

Welcome to my first ever blog post!

The blessing - and sometimes curse - of being creative is the constant onslaught of ideas and inspiration. Lately the ideas and even some poetry have been pouring out of me. Deciding where to put your energy requires intention. Having a versatile toolbox of skills coupled with friends who spread the love has allowed me to have steady work since taking on One Made fulltime. I am forever grateful for both. After three years of self-employment and multiple moments of pivoting my energy, this year I have decided to get clear on my vision for my personal life and professional. When you are self-employed they are really one in the same.

I have always struggled with how to present my skills to the world. People ask me what I do. Those who know me will tell you it's easier to ask me what I DON'T do. After listing my trade skills I love to finish with "Oh, and I also teach yoga." I finally landed on the combination of 'Artist/Designer/Jack-of-All-Trades' because I never wanted to leave any options off the table. Scared that if I didn't say 'yes' to everything my business may not be as successful or work may stop flowing in.

In the design world, our human connection - something I value dearly - and art come together in the most magical way. Bringing other people's visions to life is how I spread joy. So, why put on yet another hat? I am picking up blogging as different means of connection. Focusing on my own expression and sharing my individual perspective through the written word.

Using blogging and journaling to stay committed to my vision.

Over the years, a lot of the art I have created has been for other people. When I started working with shell art, there was no specific end-user or client in mind. I was simply drawn to the beauty found in nature and had a desire to bring attention to it. Little did I know, this would begin the slow process of cracking me open as an artist. Art as a means of self-expression was something I hadn't put much energy towards. Last year I began an art course with the intention of furthering my painting skills. I have always loved to paint, but this course helped me to realize this is where I would like to put more of my energy.

The Vision for 2025:

I will continue to serve others through art and design because that is what One Made is all about. However, I will be limiting what types of projects I take on so that I leave space for what sets my soul on fire. The artist in me needs her voice heard. She wishes to live creatively and consciously and can no longer waste time playing small. Who knows, she might even start that band she's always wanted to be in. No matter where this year takes me, know that my intentions are always to move from the same place - One Love <3

Thanks for listening!

ONE more thing:

Breaking Free

Release the dam

Set it free

Show the world

All of me

Free my soul

Let it loose

Time to put

This heart to use

Radiant love

Feel the wonder

Rippling out

Like rolling thunder

One by one

Touching all

Breaking free

With grace and gall

Inspire freedom

Show them how

It cannot wait

The time is now
